The Board will operate in a non-executive capacity and will be responsible for ensuring the quality, rigour, impact, compliance and value for money of the new external quality assurance service, and for driving continuous improvement of the standards, making recommendations to the relevant employer groups based on findings from the external quality assurance process, as well as reporting to the Institute of Apprenticeships. The Board will have a balance of independent employers from different sectors, including the private, public and voluntary sectors, tech and non-tech companies and will include at least two SMEs. IBM’s Jenny Taylor, who is Chair of the Digital Industries Apprenticeship Steering Groups says: “External quality assurance is critical because it will pick up any inconsistencies in end-point assessment and ensure a high level of quality is maintained, irrespective of who is assessing the apprentice. Most importantly it will give employers and apprentices full confidence in how the apprentice is assessed and that all apprentices are meeting the employer-defined standard.”
